Deer Meadow - Kings River tributary
25 June 2003
Day 13
Miles: 11.7/161.5

Tentative schedule
Here to Dollar Lake 14.8
Dollar Lake to Center Basin Trail junction 12.0
Tr junction to Wallace Creek 14.2
Wallace Creek to Arctic Lake? 8.2?
Arctic Lake to Mt. Whitney summit back to Mt. Muir summit to Whitney Portal 15.5

That is my tentative schedule for the remaining miles. Probably won't stick to it though. That is one of the nice things about solo hiking. I get to change my mind as much as I want.

Back to the present.

I had hoped to camp a little higher and further than this tributary of the Kings River, but I was as slow as a dog humping up the Golden Staircase, past Palisade Lakes, and over Mather Pass. Beautiful country and I took many pictures.

Mather Pass was steep at the top. The steepest so far. The snow on the ascent was some trouble for the last thousand feet vertical or so. On the far side of the pass the snow was not a problem.

Following that the JMT ran downhill, over the river, and through the woods. Grandma's house is nowhere to be seen though.

I managed to squeeze my tent into a little flat spot I found on the mountainside near the trail. I got lucky.
