I met 2 other thruhikers today. Yesterday I saw them in town and again this morning when they hiked by my camp. Several hours later they were taking a break and I caught up. We chatted briefly. They hadn't been able to get a room at the hotel in Patagonia - all full up. I got pretty luck. I never imagined needing reservations in these little towns. Anyway the leap-frogged me later when I was taking a break and they finished chasing a cow up the road. I suspect they are camped close but I haven't seen them since. The hike the rest of the way up into the wilderness area was more of the same but the way down the other side was great trail with good views. It was really enjoyable. Some of the cliffs reminded me a little of Linville Gorge in NC on the Mountain Sea Trail. And 3+ miles of the route was an old failed aqueduct for hydraulic mining. It was easy walking, level, and had good views. I'm camped in Gardner Canyon next to a flowing stream. There was plenty of water around today but that is going to run out tomorrow. Dinner was Easy Mac. I'm a little worried that I might run out of stove fuel before my next resupply. |
