Today was mostly a straight shot north. There were several trail junctions to watch out for but it was my easiest time in the West Elk Wilderness yet. My destination was Beckwith Pass at 10,000 ft and beyond. Along the way was really nice rolling trail and a patch of wild raspberries. Nice treat. I was even able to take some relaxing breaks with good seating and not too many bugs. I made the pass easily and descended another two miles to Horse Ranch Park where I will pick up the Dark Canyon Trail tomorrow. Marble is probably just out of reach for tomorrow. Plus I know that the lady who works the campground in town lives in Redstone so if I can't make it before 5ish I need not bother. I'll need that package she has for me with my clean clothes. I'll come in the next day early. I'm considering a shortcut from Marble to Aspen. With the ascent of Hagerman I'm expecting to hike into Aspen in six more days and have only Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before school starts. It might be worth it to get in a few days sooner. |
