Today was the last of the hilly pastureland. I enjoyed it though water was scarce. The trail was near the Divide but stayed low on the hillsides between 9,000 - 10,000 ft. The hike started just like yesterday - in and out of meadows before getting on some FS jeep roads then some county roads. In fact I was on some sort of road for most of the day.

About halfway the view changed. To my left were the same forested hills but the right side opened up. Way in the distance I could see some snow covered peaks. On the other side of those somewhere is my route home. Ahead of me were some much closer mountains peeking over the horizon. They weren't snow covered but they did have snowfields. I'll be entering them tomorrow.

My next resupply is Silverton. This is about the halfway point between Salida and Silverton and I'm happy with how it has gone so far. I'm a couple miles short of finishing segment 19 (out of 28). After Silverton I'll be in Durango maybe 5 days later. That will finish up the CT and I'll begin the return trip.
