The thunder and lightning did return last night but all I got was a short sprinkle. Nor was the light show very impressive I awoke dehydrated but it looked like I'd have enough water to finish this section. After a brief few miles in the trees I'd be back in the Burn. At 8:11 I was hiking down the trail just like yesterday. The weather looked good. At least the Burn Area has some good views. I even got a good look at Pikes Peak in the distance beyond Long Scraggy Peak. The snow on Pikes and the Continental Divide seems to be melting fast. It makes me wonder if I will be snowshoeing after all. I met two trail maintainers in the burn near the now defunct Top of the World campground. I was told that there is another guy about 4 hours ahead of me that could be another thruhiker. I've been noticing the same footprints from early yesterday so it wasn't a surprise. Many thanks to the people who work so hard to keep the trails open by the way. I made it out of the Burn with some water but couldn't quite make it to the next water source before I bonked. It was a struggle but eventually I hiked to the next one and sucked down a liter. then just like .6 miles down the CT I ate some food and drank some more water. I still managed some good miles for the day but I was happy to stop at Buffalo Creek. This is a really nice spot and I'll be laying out under the stars again tonight on an ancient tree covered sand bar next to the creek. |
