8 August 2007: day 4
Start Destination Daily Miles / Total
Beinglas Campsite Bridge of Orchy 19.5 today / 61 total

Today was to be a long hump but very doable and it puts me in a good position for finishing up this hike and climbing Ben Nevis.

There was some rain during the night so it was a wet tent that got stuffed into my pack this morning. The weather at the moment looked great and held a lot of promise for the rest of the day. I left before most others and sped down the easy trail at a good clip. It was a hilly, wooded walk past small farms, the old ruined Priory of St. Fillian, and cemetaries. I took lunch at a farm and hiker support point that even had wireless. I spent too much time uploading some WHW journals and photos but I don't know when my next chance will be.

From there it was more of the same to the small community at Bridge of Orchy. There is a popular hotel and bar there and just across the bridge is a small picnic area where WHW backpackers can camp. The only bad aspect is that the riverfront was midgey. Midges are tiny little bastard flies that love to annoy and bite. Even with a headnet they are still a problem. Luckily they aren't smart enough to get inside my tent.
