This morning I experienced a first. I met a convenience store clerk who knew a long trail went by his store. He said he had two girls hike through one year.

In other news I noticed my first red dirt today. Prior to that it has all been sandy or rich dark soil. It was only in one spot, but it is another sign that things are changing as I move west.

I also saw a really old gas station and pump. I took a couple pictures to share.

I decided to stop just before entering Youngsville. According to the book, there is a laundromat in town that I plan on visiting in the morning. Let's hope it is operating. There is some speculation that it is closed. From Youngsville I head to Falls Lake which is just north of Raleigh.

Tonight I am enjoying the poshest yard camping yet. The Traxlers came home to find me in their driveway. I'm glad I caught them becausethey have really set me up nice. First they have a big yard with some woods where I've setup in the woods. Second they are really friendly and rolled out the red carpet in terms of beer and a laptop. Score! Karen asked several times if I might want some food too, but I was already feeling too indebted to accept. I'm still carrying some chow and for some reason don't feel hungry anyway.

On another tangent this tent is really light and packs small but not having a floor has some disadvantages. Like for instance at one point a moment ago, I had a tick, an ant carrying a dead thing, and a cricket all running across my journal at the same time. I have since done some strategic repellent spraying.
