Not much to say for today. The best was saved for last. I passed through many small communities while being pummelled by wind from passing dump trucks. There mus be major construction somewhere. First was Davis, then Williston, Smyrna where I had an excellent steak & cheese sub, followed by Otway where I took a Mountain Dew break at the gas station, then Bettie, North River Corner, and North River. I was glad to leave VS70 with it's traffic. I hiked along some local roads to Laurel rd. and route 101. 101 might not be any better than 70 but I won't be on it for long.

Without too much time before dusk I boldly strode over to the closest farmhouse to ask if I could pitch my tent. I was politely turned down but had success across the street. Keith and Anna seemed almost excited to have me. Clearly they hadn't gotten a good whiff. Keith showed me where to setup and even turned on the outside water. Then while I'm setting up his lovely wife brings me a plate of hot food! How about that. If you were wondering it was chicken casserole with two fresh buttermilk biscuits and green beans. So much better than my anticipated Ramen noodles.

On an amusing note, their daughter stopped by to pick them up. I can only imagine what she thought when she saw me setting up my tent. Then after hearing the story from her parents, probably told them that they are crazy, I'm probably an ax murderer.
