Looks like there was some rain last night, and I heard the wind. It was nice not to camp in that without tent stakes. Other than the puddles, the conditions looked good outside. There was still wind and it was mostly cloudy but not threatening. The temperature had dropped to the mid 40's though.

I was in no hurry to leave and after packing, hiking to the post office to pick up my maildrop, then the hardware store for tent stakes it was one o'clock. There wasn't much choice in tent stakes by the way. These are huge! They'll be good for sand at least. My pack is really heavy again too. Hopefully when I get to the mainland I won't regularly be carrying so much food and water.

My late departure and a wrong turn (not my fault) made this a short day. There was a little more beach walking and a couple miles on the road. I ended up at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is closed for the season but the visitor center was open and staffed with two helpful ladies. There wasn't much time before sundown and I don't like stealth camping right outside of town anyway. The ladies called up some motels and found a cheap one for me. That is where I am now. Falcon Motel is a nice little place in Buxton near the lighthouse.
