After hiking to Snowmass it turned out to be easy to catch a bus to Aspen where I got a shower at the rec center and picked up my last mail drop at the PO. Then the same Roaring Fork Transit Authority buses took me to Glenwood Springs for $7 (after a burger and beer of course). Wow. Hard to get more convenient than that. I didn't get to hang out and enjoy Glenwood Springs but I've already done that so no big deal. Most importantly I was able to buy a train ticket to Denver that evening from my cheap motel and check my email. The train ride was just $38 to Denver and well worth it. I'd take that train again. The seats were super spacious and the two level passenger car wasn't even half full. As a bonus it had AC power at the seats. The route was beautiful too and while the train was running late I didn't mind too much. I'd be getting home late regardless and nobody was waiting up for me. It was a nice relaxing journey for me to work on my journals and reflect on my trip. This was a great way to spend the summer. I'm glad I was able to thruhike the Colorado Trail and see all that from the perspective of the thruhiker instead of just a peakbagger or weekender. The trip back was difficult but remarkable. I will be doing a lot more long distance hiking through Colorado using my own pieced together routes. |
