Alana arrived at the pass right on time this morning and after getting reacquainted she sped us down to Jefferson for a late breakfast. Unfortunately the shack was inexplicably closed. So we turned around and headed to Bailey but there was an accident near town and 285 got closed down ahead of us. We again had to turn around. Back through Jefferson though the shack was open for business. Finally breakfast! It was a little late when we started down the trail but we didn't have far to go so no problem. I was loaded down with the extra weight of snowshoes and some cold weather gear. We would only be going 6 miles today and I wouldn't be needing it until Sunday. Another CTF guy appeared and gave me some great beta on the conditions up to the pass. It doesn't sound too bad. Most of the snow is hard packed. I wonder if the Minnesota guy will push through after all. Of course the other side is another story. Anyway we did the miles and little bit of vertical to get us to Jefferson Creek where we washed up some before setting up camp nearby. Lots of mosquitoes here though but they aren't too much of a bother after DEET was applied and our cheerful campfire was burning. This is a really great camping experience. We're laying out by the fire on our mats staying warm and watching the clouds. |
