Previous Day   [Today]   Next Day

Album: arizona-trail:journal:20130514

Two cool things happened today. First I made it to Russell Tank which is a dirt tank but it had mostly nice water. I made 3 cups of soup and 2 cups of tea to rehydrate. I also took a nice long rest and when I was ready to leave huge clouds had rolled in giving me shade. The best part was the nice, modern vault toilet and garbage at the trailhead. I was able to throw away my trash! That includes my sap pants . What a nice surprise. The other thing was reaching Coconino Rim. It's about a 500 foot escarpment over the Upper Basin. While there were fewer views than I hoped I did get a few good ones including a peak at the Grand Canyon's North Rim.

I've been trying to figure out my plan for the Grand Canyon. I need a permit for assigned camping but can't get it until the day of. That uncertainty plus not knowing if the shuttles are running to Tusayon yet has me wondering how the next several days are going to play out.

I've been considering my foot (excluding the dull pain) 95% normal but the last two days have brought some new painful twinges. I'm glad that I decided to take a short day into Tusayan to resupply. This is assuming I can get a room. If things go as I hope, I have several shorter days planned. The foot just has to hold up for another 130 miles.

P.S. I also saw two javalina. This trail has shown me lots of wildlife!
