The trail shot the gap between Missouri Bill Hill (actually another small volcano I think) on the east and the higher land to the west. Today was all on forest roads and I passed two ranches. The beginning and end had scattered junipers but the middle was just pale yellow grass. I'm back in the high desert. Not coincidentally this was the warmest day in a ling time &em; almost too warm. I went through almost twice as much water as I have been. The only water source was a tank at Cedar Ranch. It had a lot of algae in it and was lukewarm. Looks like the water situation is going to stay like this until Utah with the notable exception of the Grand Canyon. I'm camped in the last little clump of cover on a large flat expanse. Good 360° views. I got a lot of pictures looking back the way I came. To the north I don't see anything. There are a ton of giant black beetles here. I've seen them on the trail since the start but I've never had them exploring my campsite before. I named one Vaudeville Beetle due to his crazy dance trying to climb up my Ziploc garbage bag. The sun has set. Time to pull out tomorrow's maps then go to sleep. Even the beetles have left. |
