I woke up a few times last night to the pitter-patter of the rain. It was still raining come morning. I didn't get a late start, well not much, I was hiking a little after 8:00.

—Bat! That's excellent. I have a couple mosquitoes bothering me —

My stuff was a little damp but the tent, a Gatewood Cape, stayed up. That was a miracle, given the lack of holding power the stakes have in that gravel.

I'm following the original AZT route through the White Canyon Wilderness. The current AZT route avoids the wilderness presumably because mountain bikes aren't allowed. The new route is also waterless. I'm taking the original because I'm short on food. It's a nice plus to have good water too. This section has been my favorite yet and the weather has been cool and cloudy.

I'm going to have to take a day off in Superior. My left foot is bothering me again and I need to give it a rest and maybe some compression. I should have been able to do more miles today but U was limping. What bad luck to get this gimpy foot. I'm blaming the shoes. They are coming apart and the left in particular is bad. And the holes scoop up gravel so that sucks. I pick up replacements at Roosevelt Lake Marina though.
