Today was spent getting across a big chunk of the Canelo Hills. It's a lot of little ups and downs in the heat. I'm about out of sunscreen too. I took a rather big bottle but didn't realize it was mostly empty. Hopefully I'll remember to buy more in the next town. For the last ten miles or so the trail has crossed a cattle ranching area. Besides all the bombs they leave on the trail, they are quite good at creating new trails. I found myself on a cow trail earlier but it rejoined the AZT. That's another thing to watch for. My water situation is good. I left Parker Canyon creek with almost 9 liters of water. I drank a third yesterday and sucked down a little more than 4 liters today. Along the trail though were many intermittent pools of water. All these sources wre rated 1 or "iffy" so I didn't want to count on them. The water here is a little green so tomorrow I'll hike to the next source to fill up. |
